Developing the biomedical field is not cheap. Need an idea how much it costs?

One day, one of my colleagues left an ice tray out overnight, with some tiny eppendorf tubes of reagents left on it. We only discovered it the next day. And by then the tubes cannot be reused anymore cos they needed to be kept at -20 degree celsius most of the time.

After some calculation, we estimated the loss.

It was a few friggin thousands in SG dollar!!! Just those few tiny tubes that dont even add up to 50ml!

Gawd.

And we spend like thousands and thousands of dollars everyday doing experiments using those kits the biostartup companies sell us.. THOUSANDS by the DAY!

Now you know why all your medicine cost so much. Think about the money pumped in to develop them. And now many governments are limiting the number of years the medicine and methods of developing them can be patented... so much so that many of these companies are losing money. It takes like, 20 years for the start of the development, the thinking up of strategy, the development of methods, and clinical testing, before finally patent application and then the selling of the drug. 20 years at least. How can these companies survive?!

Instead, govts should subsidize these medicines and companies more. Or they could pump in money themselves for the development of these medicines. Haiz...
